Needle felting (or dry felting) is an ancient art. A specially manufactured, very sharp, barbed felting needle is used by hand to repeatedly push fibres (usually wool) together, entangling them to form either flat or three-dimensional shaped forms.

Artfelt Great Balls O Fibre "Jerry" Height at withers : 5.3cm Born : 27 May, 2007 |
|
Jerry was my third needle-felted Shih Tzu whose completion was held up while I tried to find some nice 'gold' wool. He is a little bit too yellow in colour but he is quite striking to look at. Jerry is anatomically correct under all that hair - his name should give you a clue ;-) He has a wire armature making him poseable, and a coat of pure Merino wool. He has a sculpted poly-clay nose and glass eyes.
Jerry was made for my friends Gaye & Brad of Tsinghai Shih Tzu in Perth, Western Australia. |
